Two different evenings

Both options give you live jazz in Prague, but the evenings are not alike. Reduta is a club in a cultural monument on Národní street, with a bar and a hall that goes dark when the music starts. The Jazz Boat is a floating jazz club and restaurant that cruises the Vltava for about two and a half hours, with a band playing three sets. One suits a listening night, the other a slow evening with a view. The choice comes down to whether you want dinner.

What the club gives you

At Reduta you book a standard seat, which the manager assigns, or a VIP seat with a welcome drink. There is a cloakroom, a bar and no meal service, so you eat before or after. The programme changes most evenings across several jazz styles, and a Friday or Saturday can add a second, late show. The hall is up a few steps and is not wheelchair accessible. If your priority is the room and the music, this is the better pick. The club also keeps the evening short and focused: you arrive, settle in and listen.

What the boat gives you

The Jazz Boat's own site describes a cruise with live jazz and dinner: four set menus, each with a Caprese salad, a main course and a dessert, plus drinks from the bar. The band plays three sets, the style changes from day to day, and the musicians are professional Czech players who also work in other clubs. Guests describe a relaxed evening with night views of the city. Some tables may be shared with other guests, and dinner is optional. Boarding starts about 15 minutes before departure, so arrive a little early.

How to choose

Choose the club if you care most about the music in a small, dark hall, if you would rather eat elsewhere, or if you want a late set. Choose the boat if you want one booking that covers dinner, drinks and a view of the river. Couples often prefer a quiet club, and larger groups who want to eat together often prefer a table on the boat. Neither choice needs a long planning step, and both let you cancel up to 24 hours before the start.

Booking and cancelling

Both evenings can be booked ahead through the booking cards on this site, and both can be cancelled up to 24 hours before the start for a full refund, with the option to reserve now and pay later. That makes it practical to hold a date while your plans settle. The Jazz Boat's meeting point depends on the option you pick, so read the option text on the booking page. For the club, the booking calendar shows the start time for your date.

Who neither suits

Neither is ideal for anyone who needs a fully step-free route, so check access details before you book either one. A river cruise is also a poor choice if you get seasick or dislike shared tables, and a club is a poor choice if you want to talk through the evening. If you simply want to hear jazz in Prague once, either works, and the booking cards above show the current dates, seats and fares. A mixed group is easiest on the boat, where everyone sits down to the same meal, while a pair of keen listeners will get more from the club's dark hall and a seat chosen by the manager.
